Steampunk Cosplay?

So AUSAM-Con's theme for 2010 is steampunk. I'm going to dress up for it, potentially doing a semi-formal dress (money and time permitting) for the ball on Friday night, and then a less formal outfit for Saturday. But I'd love to mix the steampunk with cosplay. I've posted some on the Cosplay.com forums, but I'd like to get the help of my f-listers, if anyone out there is reading this.

Hm. Maybe I'll make a cosplay journal.

The wig looked better earlier, but it's too tight at the moment so I had to take it off and put it back on. I'll be adding elastic to the hairline band and straighening the hair fibers using hot water.

So no valentine this year. Can't say that I'm surprised, and I'm actually kind of relieved that I don't have to do anything special for anyone. But I'm still buying chocolates for all my guy friends to carry on the tradition my girl friends and I have started, so at least the guys will be happy.

And on the bright side, my idea for a Mardi Gras party for our anime club this Tuesday was chosen, so I'll be taking work off to make gumbo, jambalaya, and king cake. :3

I ordered a Naruto chuunin vest off of eBay for $54.00 plus shipping on the 13th. Got it in today, and it fits everywhere except around my hips, meaning I can't zip it. So now I'm not sure what I'm going to do--I don't know how I can fix it without making it look obvious, especially since the side seams don't extend all the way down the sides.

So I'm kind of at a loss. I've sent a message to the seller to see if I can get a refund; if I can, I might just use that money to buy fabric and make my own.

This is a 4-way tie, though I don't think one of these really counts as a robot. Bender from the TV show Futurama, Jenny XJ-9 from My Life as a Teenage Robot, Marvin the Paranoid Android from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, and HAL 9000 from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm not sure if HAL can be considered a robot, since he was the computer system running the space ship, but I threw him in there anyway because he is artificial intelligence. Especially since Futurama did an homage to HAL in one of their episodes. x3

I'm really having fun with these Writer's Block things. Three of my last four journal entries have been answers to these.

So I woke up Monday morning with a sore throat. Over the course of the next two days it progressed to a sore throat, coughing, stuffy nose and throat, and plugged-up ears. I was to the point where I could barely talk without coughing because of the drainage clogging my throat. I went to the doctor and after 2+ hours of waiting, I get a 5 minute meeting with the doctor, I'm told I have a viral infection. Rather than giving me some OTC decongestant samples, I get a prescription for Allegra-D (which I already take for allergies). Yeaaaah, no. I picked up some Sudafed and Advil instead. Let's just hope that it goes away on its own.

In other news, I've ordered a Naruto chuunin vest off of ebay for cosplay and it should get here sometime next week. Also going to hopefully start on my roommate's Shizune cosplay sometime next week.

So if any of you reading this are from the bento comms on LJ, you probably saw me pimping out a bento panel I was doing for my school's anime convention the weekend before last. Apparently, I either impressed some people or I'm the only bento "expert" in the South, because I've been invited to do my panel again at Momocon this March. So I'll be at Georgia Tech on March 14-15, and my panel will be on Saturday. I'll be cosplaying as Izumo from Naruto. <3

Cosplay is damn expensive, so I thought I'd pimp out a few things I'm selling to earn some extra cash.

First! I have a complete box set of the anime "Licensed by Royalty" available on eBay. The starting bid is $30 and at this point there haven't been any bids for it.

Secondly! I'm now in the process of working out a commission system for hats and scarves with handmade anime patches on them! At this time, I am working on three items: an Uchiha clan scarf, and two Gurren Lagann items (a beanie hat with Kamina's sunglasses, and a scarf with the Core Drill). Essentially, the scarf is hand-knitted and then the patches are added, either with fabric or just stitched on in yarn. When these items are completed, I'll post pictures. But until then, if you have any ideas for patches that you can suggest, feel free to comment with them!

As a result, I'm taking Paypal donations for Anime Weekend Atlanta, which is next weekend (september 19-21). I know it's late notice, but I just found out that keylimekitten and I have been put in charge of the table where we will be advertising the convention my university's anime club is putting on in January. We have to do the decorations--our theme is bunkasai, or School Cultural Festival, and we are planning to decorate our table to look like a high school-made haunted house (fake spiderwebs, skeleton pieces, etc.). But we have to do it all ourselves, which takes money that we don't have. So any donations are much appreciated, and will be split evenly between us to pay for these decorations and to go toward the convention itself. If you do donate, please leave me a comment here. You get a small surprise if you donate, and you even get one if you start to donate and then cancel. Hopefully they will make you smile. ^^

I GOT GUITAR HERO III: LEGENDS OF ROCK FOR THE WII FOR CHRISTMAS

Along with $75 gift cards to Wal-Mart and Beauty Brands, a $10 gift card to Burger King, socks, underwear, the fourth and fifth Harry Potter movies, two colors of nail polish, and some yarn for my mom to knit me a hat and purse and for myself to knit a scarf.

This is one of the best Christmases I've ever had in recent memory. Srsly.

Scarves, Hats, and Other Knitted Things

So I'm working on scarves over this Christmas Break to give to my friends as gifts. Not that they'll really need them in Auburn, but it's the thought that counts, right?

I'm on the phone with my roommate today talking about how I'm making an Uchiha scarf for keylimekitten and I say, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to make one in orange and put the Uzumaki swirl on it in blue?" And then she says that I could also make her a Sand village scarf.

That's when we get a brilliant idea.

You know? I think people would enjoy having a Konoha scarf. Or what about a Sound village hat? With earflaps, no less. They'd probably pay good money for them. I could even take commissions for other villages or clan symbols.

So what does everyone think? If I charged maybe $15 US for a Naruto-themed scarf or $20 US for a Naruto-themed beanie, earflap hat or headband, would anyone buy it? Should I increase/decrease the price? Is there anything else I should make to sell? Any and all ideas would be wonderful, but don't forget that I'm still pretty much a novice at knitting.

When Rock Lee woke up to soiled sheets the first night, he didn’t think anything of it; changing his pajamas and replacing the blankets on his bed, he laid back down and soon fell asleep. He didn’t even remember what had caused the reaction.

The second night it happened, he frowned to himself as the last vestiges of his dream faded from his mind; laying insensate in the middle of the Chuunin exam preliminaries ring, bare as the day he was born except for a crude blindfold made from his own bandages and wrist bindings from a length of white cloth. When he had cleared his mind of the dream, he gathered up both sets of his sheets and all of his dirty clothes, telling himself he would not sleep again until all of the laundry was washed, dried and put away.

The tenth night, Lee awakened with a growl, finding his hand was stuck down his pants and wrapped around his erection as it still pulsed faintly with his recent climax. After taking a shower and cleaning up again, he dressed in his normal attire, promising himself that he would run 500 laps around his apartment complex in an effort to wear himself out enough so that he wouldn’t dream the next night.

It didn’t work.

By the twenty-seventh night, Lee was up to 2,000 laps every morning, and another 500 each evening for every time he found himself dozing off during council meetings. That particular day, he ran a grand total of 4, 527 laps: he was supposed to run 5,500, but he stopped in his tracks when the instigator of his dreams suddenly stepped out in front of him. “Why are you training so much, Lee-san?”

“Kazekage-sama,” Lee said with a bow, though he was panting. “I am not training. I am punishing myself.”

“What for?”

Lee looked down slightly, the faintest of blushes appearing on his cheeks. “Because I have been disrespecting you, Kazekage-sama.”

Gaara frowned a little more than usual. “How have you done that? You are one of my most trusted council members.”

“I have disrespected you through my dreams,” Lee whispered, as more and more blood rushed to his face. “Please forgive me.” He dropped to his knees and bowed before Gaara, small eddies of sand swirling around his prone form.

Gaara had to raise his hand to his nose to make sure there was no blood leaking out. “Lee-san, get up. You have no reason to kneel before me like that.” Looking up at Gaara in surprise, Lee nodded slightly and stood. The redhead continued, “Follow me. There is something I wish to show you.”

“Where are we going, Kazekage-sama?” Lee asked innocently, stumbling slightly as his legs finally seemed to realize just how exhausted they were.

“To my chambers. I have to show you a dream I have been having recently. It has been disrupting my sleep at the worst times.”

Frowning at the idea of his superior suffering, Lee nevertheless wondered how the Kazekage could show him a dream. But once they had arrived in Gaara’s chambers, it soon became clear.

Lee never did finish those last 973 laps.

Well, not exactly. My hair isn't done up, but this is the costume I'll be wearing on Saturday at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2007. It's my roommate's corset, my skirt, my fishnets, and my friend Robyn's combat boots.

Glasses, hair up, nothing done. Just showing off the outfit.

Hair down, no glasses... all I need is my antennae and kunai and I'm the Frigid bit--I mean, the Savage Nymph. Or, as Robyn calls me, SuperSeme!

And, my first"sexy" picture so far. I call it my "Playboy Spread" pose, but I was just having a little fun. What do you all think?
